Ensure you and your property meet the basic eligibility requirements before applying to the program. To get started, gather all necessary documents, such as home insurance, and any preliminary information you might have about your planned upgrades.

Please note: If you are approved at the pre-qualification stage, you will have 3 months to submit your full application. Be sure to have everything ready so you can move forward with your project within that timeframe.
  • Review your municipality’s CEIP Terms and Conditions
  • Fill out the Pre-Qualification form
Once you’re pre-qualified, schedule an EnerGuide Home Evaluation.

This professional assessment will provide a detailed report on your home’s current energy performance and identify where improvements can have the most impact. The evaluation includes an energy efficiency rating, a list of recommended upgrades, and insights into which upgrades will offer the greatest energy savings. This report is required to move forward in the CEIP process and will help you prioritize upgrades that qualify for program financing.
Choose a Qualified Contractor from the directory and begin planning your project.

Work with your selected contractor to review the recommendations from your EnerGuide Home Evaluation and determine which upgrades to pursue. Once your project scope is finalized, submit your Project Application to Alberta Municipalities for review and approval.

If your preferred contractor is not on the directory, they can easily apply to become a Qualified Contractor.
After your Project Application is reviewed and approved, you’ll move on to the agreement stage. These agreements outline the terms of your participation in the program and allow you to move forward with your upgrades.
  • Clean Energy Improvement Agreement with your municipality (to secure financing for your project)
  • Project Agreement with Alberta Municipalities and your contractor(s) which outlines the installation details of your upgrades
Once the agreements are signed, upgrade installation can begin. Work closely with your Qualified Contractor to complete the approved improvements. Before any installation starts, ensure your contractor obtains all required permits and follows local building codes. Keeping the project within the approved scope is essential for continued program eligibility.
As your improvements are completed, submit the required Upgrade Completion Forms to Alberta Municipalities.

These forms confirm that the work has been finished according to program requirements and trigger payment to your Qualified Contractor. Be sure all documentation is accurate and submitted promptly after installation to avoid delays.
After all your upgrades are installed, schedule a post-project EnerGuide evaluation. This follow-up assessment will measure your home’s improved energy performance and provide an updated EnerGuide rating and label. The results help confirm the impact of your upgrades and are required to finalize your participation in the program.
You’ll repay the project costs through your property tax bill, according to the terms outlined in your Clean Energy Improvement Agreement. This convenient repayment method spreads the cost over time, making energy-efficient upgrades more affordable while adding value to your home.
